More Video Techniques and Influences

You Me At Six - Lived A Lie
You me at six are also an indie rock band who have used special effects and extreme close ups on the eyes. I want to use this technique as I feel it connects the audience with the artists and I like the challenge it will give me when it comes to editing as I want to zoom in to the boys eye and also blue the girls eye in so that when i zoom out it is the girl and not the boy. watching this video has shown that I can use an extreme close up of an eye with special effects without it looking unprofessional and the camera going out of focus.

One Direction - Story of my Life
One Direction used the movement of still image I want to incorporate into my own music video. They take a still image and through transition they turn it into a moving image. In my own video I want to be able to use moving image inside polaroid pictures to relate to the memories and flashbacks to the memories into the pictures.

Music Video Storyboard

My storyboard took up a lot of my time as I wanted my shots to be more or less accurate to my final draft of my video, so that I am not re-shooting all of the time as this will take up my characters time in their own spare time and the work they have to do themselves in other subject areas. I wrote notes at the side of my images to make sure I remember my initial ideas within the four key elements needed to produce my music video which are; Editing, Sound, Mise En Scene and Cinematography.

Creating my storyboard has helped me to realise that I may be using to many straight on shots and not enough variety in the angles of my shots. It has also shown me that I have missed out a few shots due to the repetitiveness of my music, which I have resolved by playing on the repetitiveness of the lyrics and using the images that i used the line before but rewinding them so that the footage repeats but backwards.

Music Video Inspirations and Techniques

Rihanna - Disturbia
The video Disturbia -Rihanna uses editing techniques such as fade edits and blurs which I want to use within my own music video to show a professional understanding of video techniques. I feel these relate to the indie genre as they are abstract and unusual. These techniques will also connote as the artists memories being blurry and unclear to him.

The 1975 - Girls
Within this video I like the use of the cuts being on the drum beats, I feel this gives the audience more footage and understanding of the video as well as connecting the cinematography with the sound. I also like the use of the bright coloured flowers spellings out girls which I could possibly do with the most dominant word within my own music video which would be 'fire'. This also relates to and feels like an updated version of Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick.

Bastille - Pompeii
In this video I like the technique used with lighting as they use car headlights for some shots when the main artist is singing almost as if he is in a spotlight when singing. I think this is unoriginal, abstract and clever use of lighting which I would like to try out and use with my own footage. This will challenge me when working with my characters as it may or may not work. I will also have to film when it is dark therefore I need to take into account warm clothing and drinks for in between shoots.

Kings of Leon - Supersoaker
The video supersoaker - Kings of Leon is a very typical indie-rock music video. Laid back looking clothes, girls with minimal makeup, the video in a cold feel colour and also the use of the music video looking like it is being projected out to us at a cinema screen with rounded edges to look like a projection. I would love to learn and develop my editing skills when it comes to putting my own music video together and be able to give some of my footage the 'cinema' feel. This connects with an audience as cinemas are places that show huge, worldwide, popular movies and Kings of Leon are giving their fans the chance to experience their music video through a cinema like feel. This also could relate to how big the band are across the world and are on par with big movie stars and showings within cinemas.

Costume and Make-up Ideas

Main Artist

I want my main artist to take inspiration from the lead singer of the chosen song. This is due to him stereotypically being and wearing indie/rock clothes. I like the casual laid back look and feel this is what is needed within my music video to relate to the genre and also connect with the audience as I want my audience to feel they can relate to the artist through his image. I also want my artist to wear skinny jeans and vans/converse on the feet to show the laid back indie look.

I feel my main characters hair will be quiff like and have the 'unattended' look to it, to once again fit within the genre as there is a stereotypical look for this kind of music and I feel researching into this look will help me to conclude with the look I want for my artist.

Characters 1 and 2

Above is an image of a black leotard dress that I want to use with characters one and two. Character one being in a black leotard dress and character two being in a white leotard dress, these colours relate to the typical black and white colours used within the indie/rock genre but I want these characters to act as the artists brain. I want them to be dancing and moving in the background on a fade edit when the artist is singing in the forest to connote the colours of his memories fading  away and them almost turning into black and white memories but also act as the good and evil memories.

Character 3

Taking into consideration the weather conditions at the moment and most likely to be filming scenes outside I want my third character who is the girl of the artists memories to be warm when filming. Therefore, to stay within the indie rock look I want the character to be in warm yet laid back look clothing, such as a big green parka jacket, baggy jumpers, tights/jeans with vans as shoes or boots.

Make-Up Ideas and Inspirations

For characters one and two I feel they need smoky/dark eyesto complete their mysterious look. Above are a few images I will take inspiration from when helping and creating their look before filming.

Sticking to the indie rock theme I would like character three to have simple but effective make-up. Dark thick eye-liner on the eyes with black mascara. Minimal foundation bronzer and blusher applied to the face.

Location Ideas

Hessle Foreshore

Above are images from Hessle Foreshore which two are during the day and one is when the sun is setting, I want to be able to have some shots in day time lighting and some on a night so that I can incorporate the lights from the bridge shining onto the water as well as a few shots of the artist singing with the use of car headlights and more being used as the lighting when it is dark, which I took inspiration from Bastille themselves in their Pompeii video.

East Park

Above is an image of East Park, with this being behind where and closer to where most of my main cast live, it will be easy to shoot and re-shoot footage within the park as there are many forest looking places which could be shown as if we was back at Hessle Foreshore. I could also use the ponds and sunsets here too.

(NEED TO GATHER IMAGES OF MY OTHER PLACES BY GOING OUT ON A DRIVE FOR THEM)
